Preview Of Your Final Project Over The Next Several Weeks
Preview Of Your Final Projectover The Next Several Weeks You Will Be L
Over the next several weeks you will be learning about service learning and also investigating a community organization. You will be reading about service learning, as well as completing a research project about a community organization of your choosing in order to evaluate their role in the community and the impact they have. This project may be submitted as a paper, a presentation, or a speech. You will be evaluated over the following five soft skills throughout the course: Communication, Critical Thinking, Respect for Diversity, Professional, Ethical, and Social Responsibility, Lifelong Learning.
The expectations for each of these skills include demonstrating clear, error-free writing, thorough analysis, cultural awareness, understanding of ethical issues, integrating prior learning, and applying knowledge to real-world situations. Your final project should demonstrate proficiency in these areas and include a detailed examination of a community organization.
Paper For Above instruction
Your final project requires an in-depth investigation of a community organization of your choice, assessing its role in the community, its partnerships, challenges, and future vision. You may present your project as a paper, presentation, or speech. Regardless of format, your work must be well-organized, demonstrate critical analysis, and reflect thorough research and personal reflection.
If you choose to write a paper, it should be 5-7 pages in APA format, including a title page and references. Your paper must incorporate a compelling introduction with a thesis statement, a detailed body with clearly labeled sections, and a conclusion that summarizes key points and proposes actionable steps. Use supporting quotations and paraphrased ideas from at least 10 credible sources published within the last five years. Throughout your work, demonstrate clarity, coherence, and critical engagement with the topic.
If you opt to deliver a presentation, it should be 8 to 10 minutes long, visually engaging with graphics and multimedia elements, and recorded clearly with voice narration. Your presentation must effectively communicate your research findings and reflections, highlighting the organization’s background, community impact, partnerships, challenges, and potential contributions you could make.
For a speech, prepare an 8 to 10-minute compelling oral presentation supported by a typed handout. Your speech should narrate your research and insights engagingly, with a logical flow and emphasis on key takeaways. All formats require a thorough discussion of the organization’s history, community needs, partnerships, volunteer contributions, challenges, future vision, and potential personal involvement.
In all cases, your final project must address the following elements:
- The community organization: focus, history, community needs, partnerships (existing and recommended), cross-cultural challenges, and humanitarian considerations.
- Use of volunteers and economic benefits beyond free labor.
- Obstacles faced or potential challenges, with suggested solutions.
- Future vision for the organization and areas for improvement.
- How you might contribute based on your skills and interests.
- Research support from a minimum of ten recent credible sources.
Throughout your project, apply your critical thinking to analyze each aspect thoroughly, incorporate diverse perspectives, and demonstrate your understanding of ethical, social, and cultural considerations. Engage reflection on how your prior knowledge enhances your current understanding, linking academic insights with practical community engagement. Strive for a clear, persuasive, and professional presentation of your findings and proposals, aiming to inform and inspire your audience or readers to appreciate and possibly support or become involved with the organization.
