Are you arguing with these ideas that prison gangs are more popular or necessary in private institutions? Do you see any positive for prison culture of having gangs?
Paper For Above instruction
Prison gangs have long been a significant aspect of the prison landscape, especially in private institutions where their presence may be more pronounced. My position aligns with the view that prison gangs often flourish in private prisons due to factors such as overcrowding, lack of staff oversight, and institutional neglect, which create an environment conducive to gang formation and dominance (Kruttschnitt, 2014). While some argue that gangs provide a sense of camaraderie and protection for inmates, these advantages are overshadowed by the violence, exploitation, and illegal activities they facilitate (Miller & Ng, 2018). From a rehabilitative perspective, the existence of gangs undermines efforts for positive change and social integration for incarcerated individuals (Clear & Cole, 2018). Although some may claim that gangs serve a psychological function by offering a sense of belonging, the detrimental effects on prison safety and the marginalization of vulnerable inmates are profound. Therefore, the negative implications far outweigh any perceived benefits, making prison gangs a detrimental feature rather than a necessary one in private institutions.
