General Education requirements are vital components of higher education because they serve to develop well-rounded students equipped with essential skills and knowledge across multiple disciplines. These courses foster critical thinking, communication, and analytical abilities, which are fundamental in adapting to diverse professional environments and lifelong learning. According to the catalog, the rationale behind General Education is to ensure students acquire a broad-based foundation that complements specialized knowledge in their chosen fields, thereby enhancing employability and societal contribution. By completing courses in areas such as humanities, sciences, mathematics, and social sciences, students gain a holistic understanding of the world, which is essential in today’s interconnected and rapidly changing global landscape. This foundational education not only prepares students for advanced coursework but also encourages ethical reasoning, cultural awareness, and intellectual curiosity, all of which are crucial attributes for personal and professional development.
In my program, I am required to complete a series of General Education courses designed to provide a comprehensive foundation applicable across various disciplines. These courses include Introduction to Humanities, College Algebra, Composition and Rhetoric, and Introduction to Psychology.
