My vision for the future of nursing encompasses a profession that is not only highly skilled and adaptable but also a pivotal leader in healthcare innovation and policy advocacy. Nurses will transition from traditional roles to autonomous practitioners actively shaping healthcare delivery, using evidence-based practices and technological advancements to improve patient outcomes and experiences. This vision aligns closely with the recommendations outlined in the Institute of Medicine's (IOM) 2010 report, “The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health,” which emphasizes the need for nurses to practice to the full extent of their education and training, achieve higher levels of education, and be full partners with physicians and other health professionals in redesigning health care (IOM, 2010). Both prioritize workforce development, leadership, and the removal of barriers to optimal practice.

To actualize this vision, the first action step I plan to take is pursuing advanced education—specifically, a master's or doctoral degree in nursing—aligning with the IOM’s goal to increase the proportion of nurses with baccalaureate and higher degrees.
