Personal Nursing Philosophy and Its Evolution

Throughout my RN-BSN journey at Western Carolina University (WCU), my personal nursing philosophy has undergone significant transformation. Initially, my philosophy centered around compassionate patient care and clinical competence. As I progressed through coursework, particularly in NURS 500, I gained a deeper understanding of holistic care, emphasizing the importance of respecting patients' spiritual beliefs and values. This shift aligns with my increased awareness that health is a holistic interplay of physical, emotional, social, and spiritual factors, consistent with the theories of Madeleine Leininger, who advocates for culturally congruent care (Leininger & McFarland, 2002).
