Reflection on Presentation by Owens

The presentation by Owens provided valuable insights into the crucial roles that Information Technology (IT) plays within a modern business environment. Throughout the talk, I learned several new concepts that deepened my understanding of IT’s strategic importance. First, Owens highlighted how IT infrastructure supports real-time data processing, which enables businesses to make faster and more informed decisions. This was new to me because I hadn't fully appreciated the extent to which real-time analytics can impact operational efficiency. Second, I learned about the significance of cybersecurity strategies in protecting sensitive organizational data, emphasizing the evolving nature of cyber threats and the need for continuous updates to security protocols. This reinforced the importance of proactive cybersecurity measures, which I previously underestimated. Third, Owens discussed the growing role of cloud computing in enhancing business agility by allowing scalable resources on demand. I found it intriguing how cloud technology reduces costs and increases flexibility, a critical factor for startups and large organizations alike.

Regarding the functional roles of IT presented by Owens, I found two particularly important to business success. Firstly, the role of IT in supporting communication channels is essential because it ensures seamless information flow across departments, fostering collaboration and efficiency. Without robust communication systems, organizations struggle with coordination, which can hinder productivity. Secondly, IT's role in data management is vital for strategic planning and customer relationship management. Effective data management allows businesses to analyze market trends, optimize supply chains, and tailor marketing efforts. Both roles are fundamental because they directly contribute to competitive advantage and operational resilience.

One question I have concerns how organizations can effectively balance investments between preventative cybersecurity measures and reactive responses to breaches. As threats evolve rapidly, determining the optimal allocation of resources remains a challenge for IT leaders.

Overall, Owens' presentation broadened my understanding of the multifaceted functions of IT within a business context. It underscored the importance of strategic IT planning and the continuous adaptation required to stay ahead in a digital-first world.
