Remember! This DB has 3 parts. Part 1 is due on Thursday at 11:59 PM, and parts 2 and 3 are due on Sunday at 11:59 PM.

Part 1: We see all around us health information. In commercials, public health campaigns, and social media. With the proliferation of social media, we may have greater exposure to health information. However, not all information that is shared is credible and accurate. It's important that accurate information is shared by credible sources. Social media is increasingly being used by scientists, educators, and public health experts to disseminate evidence-based health information. For this discussion board, I’d like you to explore health information and health education discussions posted on social media from health teachers, school nurses, or other school health educators.

You may reference any social media such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, or Facebook. Focus on accounts that are dedicated to sharing and discussing health education, not just accounts from someone who happens to be a health education teacher or school nurse. While exploring content posted by these educators, consider: What appears to be their top priority based on their shared content? How are they engaging with their audience (their intent)? For example, are they aiming to educate, connect, engage with other educators, or advocate for issues?

Evaluate your thoughts on the quality of the information they share and the content they create, including style, formatting, appeal, accessibility, and understandability. If the educator or nurse shares personal information, include their title, workplace, and grade levels they work with when discussing their posts.

Select 2-3 specific posts (include links or screenshots) as examples to illustrate your points for peers and me.

Part 2: Watch the short videos of educators from Module 2 Learning Activities. Compare and contrast what you learned from exploring health educators on social media and what you heard from the teachers in the videos. Describe how you could incorporate insights from these sources into your own classroom to teach Life Skills, Stress Management, or Media Literacy. Use specific references and examples. What do you expect to be your biggest challenge in teaching these topics? What questions do you have about teaching them?
