Dear Dr. Gary Ciuba: Subject: Progress Report for Feasibility Study on Starting a Tree Service Scope and Purpose Comment by Gary Ciuba: Use the format discussed in class: Introduction, Project Description, Work, Evaluation. This progress report is for a feasibility study on starting a tree service business. I will briefly describe the project, its scope, the status of the feasibility study, the work I have already completed, when I hope to complete it, and the problems I have encountered. It is imperative to note that starting a tree service can be easy with the right information. Moreover, it is good for the tree service provider or arborist to learn what is involved in opening a tree service business. This includes startup costs, business licensing requirements, marketing tips, physical skills, and networking with other tree service providers. Feasibility Factors I Have Already Considered in the Feasibility Study According to the feasibility study that I have done to date, I have identified key areas of concern of the tree service business. Thus far, I have been able to identify residential clients and commercial land owners who require constant tree upkeep to maintain their land permit standards as a potential target market for the tree service business. I have also been able to identify that the tree service business can make most of its money by maintaining various properties with installation, monthly trimming and pruning, removal and emergency services which offer decent lump-sum payoffs. Moreover, tree rescue, root removal, pressure cutting and branch removal are all aspects that make the business to have a highly potential target market. In addition, I have noted that the business has a high growth potential given that a good, or professional tree service provider, can do business across states. Therefore, servicing multiple areas can ensure that the business prospers. I have also been able to conduct an environmental sustainability feasibility study in relation to disposing off debris from the business as part of being ecofriendly. Comment by Gary Ciuba: Wordy Feasibility Factors I Need to Study Before Completing the Feasibility Study It is good to acknowledge the fact that I have not been to investigatescrutinize all areas of concern in the tree service business. I, for instance, have not been able to know the relevant skills and experiences that will help propel the tree service business to the next level or to success. Moreover, the cost involved in opening a tree service business is fundamentally important. In my study, I have not been able to figure out the minimum amount or range of cost that can sustain a tree service startup. I will also be engaged in knowing research the minimum costs that are involved in starting and maintaining the tree service business both in the short-term, and long-term which can be periods of up to 5-years. Comment by Gary Ciuba: How will you find out this information? Comment by Gary Ciuba: How will you research this factor? I hope that in the coming week or so, I will be conducting a feasibility study of the relevant skills and experiences that are needed in a tree service business. I will also embark on getting insider tips on how to run a successful tree service business. I will also be in order knowing how to promote, and market the tree service business as part of making it relevant and able to capture a sizeable clientele base. Knowing when and how to build a team as well as when the business needs to hire the services of independent contractors will also be my major focus in this final stage of the feasibility study. Of course, the business will not operate without meeting the legal requirements. Therefore, I will also examine the state and local business licensing requirements the tree service business is required to meet before being flagged to start operations. Comment by Gary Ciuba: You are conducting only one FS, and that is about the tree service. You are researching the skills that might be needed to start this business. Comment by Gary Ciuba: From whom? Where will you get these tips? Comment by Gary Ciuba: Wordy Comment by Gary Ciuba: How will you gain this information? Expectations Despite costs, and resource constraints in finding useful information in relation to the feasibility study, I hope I will be able to work within the limited time frame and with the available resources in completing the feasibility study. It is my belief that this feasibility study will ultimately come to a halt. Therefore, by the end of the next week, I will have completed the remaining part of the feasibility study. I expect by the end of the one-week time frame that the feasibility study will have proven that it is feasible for the tree service business to start operations. This will be a great sigh of relief and major breakthrough for the tree service business to be rolled out. Comment by Gary Ciuba: Wordy Conclusion Given the halfway progress I have made in the feasibility study, I am sure the last part of the study will also be completed with success. From time to time within the remaining one-week time frame, I will be seeking your advice in relation to the feasibility study. Sincerely, Charity Townsend Charity, Doing a FS on a tree service business is an excellent project for you because it will help you to make an important decision for your career. However, a progress report needs to tell the reader precisely what work you accomplished. As I’ve noted in the margins, you need to tell us how you found your information. Did you consult a website? Read a book? Talk to other tree service operators? What exactly did you do? Consider also the following factors: 1. The format presented in class for a progress report needs to be followed. 2. The letter format should also be followed. 3. The wordiness gets in the way of clearly understanding your ideas. Grade: C
