Planning Human Resource Management Human Resources play an important role in the realization of the goals and objectives of any organization. It is incredibly important to note that in many organizations, human resources are limited, and that makes it necessary to make sure that there is a need to make sure that necessary to plan in a way that will improve the effectiveness of the human resources. There are four levels of human resource planning. The first level involves the planning for the human resource management processes and framework while the second level involves the acquisition of the project team. The third level involves the development of a project team, while the final state involves the management of the project team.

In the planning of the resources, the first step is to come up with the project management plan. The development of a project management plan will make it possible to have a picture of the entire process, and that will make it possible to have an understanding of the possible human resource needs of the project (Chapter 9, n.d). The second level is the acquisition of the project team. It is incredibly important to come up with the most suitable team of human resources that will address the unique needs of the project. The third level involves the development of the team.

One of the ways of developing the team is to offer them adequate training. The management of the project team is the next level of planning human resource management. The success of a project team relies heavily on the effectiveness of its management. Since project teams have different qualities and features, it is critical to developing some of the most effective ways and strategies that will ensure that the team operates flawlessly (Chapter 9, n.d). Discussion Questions Trevor is likely to be an important member of the team. With his experience, Trevor should be in charge of the design aspects of the project where he is expected to come up with the appropriate design of the prosthetic arm. The experience of Trevor in computer programming and robotics needs to be tapped and used in the execution of the project. Besides, he ought to play an advisory role on matters involving computer programming. Looking at the nature of this project, it is notable that technology will play an important role in the process. Thus, Trevor will play a critical role in advising the team concerning the use of the technologies.

Kathy, being the project manager, is tasked with the responsibility of making sure that the team operates seamlessly with the aim of achieving its objectives. However, during the process, it would be necessary to make sure that all the team members have responsibilities to play. In the case of Trevor, it is notable that Kathy would have no option to give him authority over some of the decisions that will be made in the team. However, while it would be necessary to make sure that Trevor has some powers in the team, such powers and duties emanate from the team, and the final decision will be made by the team. Thus, while Trevor will have a voice in the various entire processes, it would be the role of the team to either validate or invalidate the process.

The awards that Trevor received in school from the class projects that he did, especially those concerning robotics, one is likely to assume that Trevor is competent enough to help in the development of the prosthetic limb. However, in my analysis, the development of the prosthetic limb is an incredibly important process that requires an individual who has had experience in the development of the technology. Once the plan is established, acquiring the right personnel becomes essential. In the context of developing a prosthetic arm, team members with expertise in biomedical engineering, robotics, computer programming, and project management are vital. During team development, training sessions ensure that members are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge, especially regarding new technologies involved in prosthetics development (Kerzner & Saladis, 2017). Leadership styles adopted by the project manager should foster collaboration, motivation, and clarity of roles, enhancing team cohesion and productivity.

Managing the human resources involves continuously evaluating team performance and adjusting roles as needed. Effective communication channels, conflict resolution strategies, and decision-making processes are implemented to maintain team harmony and focus. Recognizing individual contributions and providing feedback helps sustain motivation and engagement (Burke, 2017).

In the specific case of Trevor, a recent graduate with a background in computer programming and robotics, his role should be clearly defined to leverage his technical skills. Given his experience, Trevor could serve as a software engineer or technical advisor for the programming aspects of the prosthetic device. His responsibilities should include designing and testing control systems, ensuring software integration with the hardware components, and troubleshooting coding issues. However, his authority level must be appropriately calibrated. While Trevor’s technical input is valuable, the final decisions should involve the core project team and led by Kathy, the project manager.

Considering Trevor’s accolades and class projects in robotics, he demonstrates strong competency in programming but limited experience in biomedical device development. Developing a prosthetic limb requires hands-on experience with biomechanics, sensor integration, and regulatory standards—areas where Trevor may lack proficiency. Therefore, his role should focus on robotics and software development, with mentorship or collaboration with other seasoned biomedical engineers.
