Stage 2: Bibliography ARTS 1301 ~ Dr. Foltz After you have critiqued one artwork in a local museum, you will research the history and context of the work or its general style/type of object. Before you complete the research paper, you will submit a bibliography containing at least three separate, scholarly sources to be used in Stages 3-5. This is not necessarily a final list; you may add more after it has been submitted, as long as they meet the same academic criteria. Your textbook is your first source.

See the Sample Bibliography for how to cite it and other sources. Be sure to specify the chapter or section used. Criteria for other sources: must be a reliable, scholarly document, preferably from a library. Books, e-books, databases, and professionally produced documentaries (i.e., BBC, PBS) are preferred. Websites should be used sparingly and with caution; your bibliography should not consist solely of websites.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History, Khan Academy Arts & Humanities, and UNESCO World Heritage sites are acceptable, as are most other official museum and university sites. *Note: multiple articles or entries from the same site are considered to be one “source.” For example, if your bibliography contains two separate entries from the Heilbrunn Timeline, they only count as one of the three required sources. Do not use Wikipedia.org, About.com, A&E, or other commercial sites. If a website has “.com” in the URL, or is full of ads, it is probably unreliable. When in doubt, please consult the instructor BEFORE the due date!

If your bibliography or Wiki entry contains unacceptable sources, it will receive a much lower grade, or possibly a 0%. To locate additional sources, use the LibGuide created for my classes: This guide contains references to books, videos, databases, and other acceptable sources for the exact topics covered in this assignment. If you cannot find sufficient information in any of these places, contact an El Centro College reference librarian for help.

Your bibliography must be in proper MLA Works Cited page format. This includes a four-line heading, page headers, and complete entries with hanging indents and in alphabetical order. A list of copied/pasted URLs is not acceptable.

Use a standard 12-point font and 1” margins. The title of the page is Works Cited (no bold, underlining, etc.). Upload this as a .doc, .docx, or .pdf file to STAGE 2: Bibliography in the Semester Project area in eCampus. Due by 11:59pm on the date on the course calendar.
