Survey Instructionsthe Survey Findings Will Be Incorporated Into The

The survey findings will be incorporated into the final policy brief. This folder contains instructions only. As part of your policy brief, you must include a survey of students or a second interview. If you opt to complete a survey, please follow these instructions.

Assignment: Since your final project will require you to propose local change, you should be able to discuss the needs, interests, and/or beliefs of the Denver residents. To collect this data, you may design and implement a survey of DU students. You may use this as an opportunity to gauge student interest in your topic. Or, you may examine students’ level of understanding or beliefs about it. Another approach might be to survey student behavior to determine ways in which your call to action could benefit or enlighten the DU population.

Instructions:

  1. Determine your hypothesis
  2. Create a survey of 3–7 questions that complies with IRB guidelines (see IRB handout)
  3. Conduct your survey among a sample population of at least 50 DU students
  4. Tabulate your results and formulate basic statistics based on your findings
  5. Create (one or more) figures to express your data visually

Requirements:

  • Include your findings in your policy brief
  • Submit the survey instrument as an appendix to your policy brief

All surveys must contain the following statement, which should appear as the first question on your survey. You may not use the data if the respondent does not consent.

IRB Survey/Questionnaire/Poll Statement

The following passage must be read or printed on every survey or poll you conduct: By completing the following questions, you are also granting consent for this information to be used as part of a research project that I am completing for a course at the University of Denver. Your participation is completely voluntary. The information you provide may be used in a project and may be published online and/or in print, but your identity will remain anonymous. While profile information you volunteer in this survey may be included in my writing project (i.e., your age, sex, class standing, etc.), your name and identity will NOT be used or reported. If at any time you do not want to answer a question or do not want to complete the questionnaire, you do not have to.
