In this reflection, I will discuss my experience using the comprehensive interview preparation tool called Big Interview, a resource designed to help students develop interview skills through practice questions, video tutorials, and personalized feedback. I participated in a simulated interview session led by a career services counselor last month at the campus career center, which lasted approximately one hour. I chose this activity because I wanted to improve my confidence and readiness for upcoming job interviews, especially in a competitive field where strong interview skills are crucial. My intended outcome was to become more prepared, articulate my strengths clearly, and reduce nervousness during actual interviews.
This experience had a profound impact on my approach to interview preparation. I learned that effective storytelling about my experiences and skills is essential to making a positive impression. I was surprised to realize how much my body language and tone of voice influence the perception of my confidence and professionalism. I felt I related well to the technique of structuring responses using the STAR method, which I had previously heard of but never fully utilized. Looking ahead, I recognize that there are still questions I need to address to further improve my interview skills. My next steps include refining my personal pitch, practicing responses to behavioral questions, and gaining more real-world experience through internships or informational interviews. Ultimately, I aim to approach each opportunity with greater confidence and strategic preparation, ensuring I am fully ready for my future career pursuits.
