The Topic Of This Weeks Learning Segment Is The Art Of Persuasion Y

The topic of this week's learning segment is "The Art of Persuasion". You will learn the ability to persuade others to understand your viewpoint and to agree with you. Knowing how to convince people of your perspective is very important in business communications. As it says in your Week 5 syllabus description, "Persuasion requires more than the ability to mold an opinion; it requires the ability to inspire action." Think of a new product, idea or proposal to start a company you would like to have a Shark invest in. It can be real or imaginary.

For your Discussion post, you will be asked to imagine you are actually on "Shark Tank," and are trying to get the sharks to invest in your idea, product, and/or company. If you are not familiar with Shark Tank you can check this out to get a sense of how a pitch goes in this venue: As you begin your readings, watching the videos, and thinking about your Discussion Post this week, I would like to offer you some items that you should consider including in your response: who you are (be personable when you introduce yourself; engage) include your name, the name of your company and the name of the product why you are here tell me my problem that you want to solve introduce your hook tell a story: empathy, get me interested (*I often lead with a story when I am pitching to hook my audience in.) describe your product or service mention its differentiating advantages use a pitch as described in this week’s reading material make up data and statistics: is the product in production; is the service being offered; how many have you already sold; costs, profits, revenue, where (city, states, countries); how is it being used; consumer excitement, etc. tell me what you will do with the money you get from me, i.e. build the item or App, more marketing, build a factory, speed up production, hire more people, etc. describe your persuasive technique and why you chose it (from the reading) do not forget the ask or call to action; how much money you want and what percentage of the business you are offering them Remember, you only have 1-2 minutes to make your "elevator pitch".

This is an imaginary scenario, so use your imagination with the product or service you have invented. After your pitch, remember to tell us about the persuasive techniques you used and why you chose them. Please include the application of and references to both this week's reading material and external sources. Please have fun with this discussion and let your imagination run wild.

Paper For Above instruction

Greetings, classmates, and Professor Elias: below is my shark tank pitch.

Hi, Sharks, my name is Hubert Brown. I am an impactor & entrepreneur; my goal is to leave a functional footprint on the world. And with your help - we can make it happen. My company, Waterworks, has developed a new technology to test, filter, and purify water on the go and in the home at an affordable price for all. I am here today to seek your help in getting this portable water filtration system into the hands of people worldwide. We believe access to clean water is a fundamental human right that should not be compromised due to economic or geographic barriers.

Currently, approximately 780 million people lack access to a reliable, safe water source (World Health Organization, 2007). As a father, I deeply think about the future, about our children growing up in a world where clean water is not guaranteed. I have read stories of individuals walking miles to find water that is often contaminated, leading to disease and death. These stories inspire my commitment to solving this issue through innovation.

Our product integrates solar energy and ultraviolet light to create a portable, efficient, and eco-friendly water purifier. The device is lightweight, transparent, and activates within three minutes to purify a gallon of water. Its self-cleaning feature allows for repeated use over five years with no filter replacements, significantly reducing ongoing costs. Using solar energy not only diminishes carbon footprint but also makes the system cost-effective, as the fuel—sunlight—is free. Initial manufacturing is located in Virginia, producing around 5,000 units daily; however, demand requires scaling up to 50,000 units per day to meet global needs.

Thus far, we have partnered with local governments in Cambodia, distributing 100,000 units, demonstrating social impact and commercial viability. Our cost per unit is approximately $3.00, and we plan to retail it at $9.99; in bulk, the price drops to $6.00, ensuring affordability and profit margin. The global water sanitation market is projected to grow as more communities and households recognize the importance of clean water, expanding opportunities for our product.

With your investment of $500,000 for a 15% equity stake, we will expand our manufacturing capabilities, establish larger facilities, and accelerate distribution channels. The funds will also support marketing efforts to raise awareness and adoption, particularly in underserved regions. Our mission is to empower individuals and communities with sustainable water solutions, ultimately saving millions of lives from waterborne diseases.

The persuasive technique I employed in this pitch is social proof. I positioned our company as already making a meaningful difference through partnerships, showing investment and demand in developing countries like Cambodia. This technique establishes credibility and encourages sharks to see themselves not merely as financiers but as contributors to a global cause (Keller, 2015). By highlighting existing impact and potential scale, I aim to inspire confidence and a sense of collective responsibility among investors.
