The upcoming week's focus centers on understanding and applying the assessment cycle within educational settings. This involves exploring the components of assessment literacy, collaboration through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and the effective use of data to inform instructional practices. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance teachers' capacity to assess student learning accurately, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and implement targeted interventions to support student growth.

In this context, educators are tasked with engaging in several activities, including extensive reading, classroom observations, interviews with experienced educators, and the development of a professional presentation. These activities collectively foster a deeper understanding of assessment practices, collaborative learning, and data-driven instruction. The reading materials encompass a range of scholarly articles and chapters focusing on assessment literacy, collaboration, and professional learning communities, emphasizing the importance of literacy in assessment and data analysis for improving student outcomes (Stiggins, 2017; Shepard, 2019; Mason & Creagh, 2022).

Field experiences require observing children from birth to age three in a childcare setting, paying close attention to safety regulations across multiple age groups. Interviews will be conducted with a K-3 teacher experienced in PLC participation, analyzing student data, and implementing interventions. Additional interviews with an instructional coach or administrator will explore the mechanisms of PLC implementation, collaboration focus areas, and the impact on student learning. These insights will inform a written reflection comparing findings and projecting future application in professional practice.

A significant component is the creation of a professional development presentation focusing on assessment literacy and the role of PLCs. This digital presentation will include slides defining PLCs, their benefits, and their role within the assessment cycle; comparing data literacy and assessment literacy; describing technological tools used to monitor progress; and strategies for involving students, families, and educators in the assessment process. The presentation aims to incorporate scholarly references aligned with APA 7 guidelines, supporting effective communication of these concepts.

Supporting these efforts, participants will respond to discussion questions, complete lesson plan design tasks, and participate in activities reinforcing the integration of assessment literacy and collaborative practices. The overarching goal of these tasks is to prepare educators to utilize assessment data meaningfully, foster collaborative professional learning communities, and implement strategies that promote continuous student improvement aligned with best practices in education (Darling-Hammond et al., 2020; Black & Wiliam, 2018).
