The phenomenon of breast cancer among young women has garnered increasing attention in recent years, making it a compelling and relevant research topic in the field of nursing and healthcare. This interest stems from the rising incidence rates observed globally, particularly among women aged 20 to 40 years, who often face unique challenges related to diagnosis, treatment, and psychological well-being. My motivation to pursue this research is rooted in a desire to improve understanding and care protocols for this demographic, ultimately aiming to enhance health outcomes and quality of life.
Several factors motivate my focus on breast cancer in young women. Firstly, the emotional and psychological impact of a breast cancer diagnosis at a young age is profound, impacting not only physical health but also mental health, fertility considerations, and social life. Recognizing that young women often experience delayed diagnoses due to the misconception that breast cancer is predominantly an older woman's disease further fuels my interest. Additionally, recent studies highlight disparities in access to early screening and treatment, which I seek to explore in order to identify effective interventions and support systems tailored for this population.
The basis for my literature review is grounded in recent empirical research and systematic reviews published within the last five years. These sources provide evidence on risk factors, screening practices, and psychosocial support strategies specific to young women with breast cancer. Scholars such as Smith et al. (2019) and Johnson and Lee (2021) emphasize the importance of targeted interventions that address the distinct needs of younger patients, contributing to a comprehensive understanding that informs clinical practice and policy development. By synthesizing this current literature, I aim to identify gaps in knowledge and propose strategies that can be implemented in nursing care to improve early detection and support services for young women facing breast cancer.
