Delivering a presentation in an online environment presents unique challenges that require careful consideration and strategic planning. One of the primary challenges is maintaining audience engagement, which can be hindered by the physical separation and potential technical difficulties. Unlike in-person presentations, where speakers can rely on physical presence and immediate feedback, online presentations often lack these elements, making it harder to gauge audience reactions and adapt accordingly (Brink, 2020). To overcome this, I plan to incorporate interactive elements such as polls or Q&A sessions to foster engagement and utilize dynamic visuals to keep audience attention high. Additionally, technical issues like connectivity problems can disrupt the flow of a presentation. To mitigate this, I will test all equipment beforehand, ensure stable internet access, and have backup plans, such as pre-recorded segments, prepared in case of technical failure.
In selecting presentation media for my final story presentation, I am considering options such as PowerPoint with voice-over narration, a recorded video, or animated tools like PowToons. PowerPoint with voice-over allows me to combine visuals with spoken narration, offering clarity and professionalism. Its advantages include wide accessibility and ease of editing; however, it can sometimes be monotonous if not animated effectively. Creating a video provides the opportunity for more dynamic storytelling, with visual and auditory elements working in tandem. The downside is that videos require more production time and technical skills. PowToons enables engaging animations and creative storytelling, but may have limitations in customization and can be time-consuming for complex content.
To prepare holistically for my final presentation, I plan to develop a detailed script, rehearse multiple times, and gather feedback from peers to refine my delivery. I will also ensure my chosen media aligns with my message and audience preferences. Execution involves scheduling dedicated rehearsal sessions, checking technical equipment beforehand, and practicing in a similar environment to where I will present to build confidence and smooth out any issues. These planning steps aim to produce a polished and engaging presentation that effectively communicates my story.
By proactively addressing technical, engagement, and media considerations, I aim to deliver an impactful online presentation that captures and sustains my audience’s interest while effectively conveying my message.
