You should choose a sector that is relevant to your interests and researchable, ensuring that later in the term, you can evaluate a network of assets within that sector and conduct a risk assessment on at least one critical asset. Your role is to act as a CI advisor and draft a White Paper that informs and influences decision-makers in public or private entities about your selected sector. The White Paper should be a maximum of three pages, well-organized, clear, and comprehensive, including the following elements:

  • Strong and concise reasons why the community, agency, or company should focus their research on the selected CI sector over the next few months.
  • An explanation of what CI sectors are and why they are designated as such by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
  • A brief discussion of other CI sectors that are interdependent with your chosen sector.
  • Consideration of one or two key potential networks within your sector and one or more critical assets to be explored later.

In this white paper, avoid excessive historical background or broad overviews; focus instead on information most relevant to the decision-maker. Proper citations are required for any sourced material. Use 1.5 or double spacing, and 11- or 12-point font.

Part 2 requires creating a visual network diagram representing a specific subsection within your chosen sector. This network must include more than two nodes and illustrate the relationships and dependencies among assets, physical or virtual links, and the critical nodes. The diagram can be hand-drawn or digitally created, but must be labeled clearly and include detailed descriptions of each node during your presentation.
