For This Week You Have A Choice Of Watching One Of The Filmsdocumenta

For this week you have a choice of watching one of the films/documentaries listed below. After watching the film/documentary, you will need to write a 2 page reaction paper (standard writing guidelines, double spaced, Times New Roman, 12). A reaction paper is you telling me what you learned and how you felt after watching the movie. The paper must include anything you identify on the film as a topic covered thus far in class, e.g., social class, socialization, deviancy, crime, norms, etc.

Choices:

  • Films:
    • American History X
    • Snowden
    • In Time (Justin Timberlake)
    • Hidden Figures
  • Documentaries:
    • Cowspiracy (Netflix)
    • Miss Representation (Netflix)
    • What the Health (Netflix)
    • Fed Up (Netflix)

Paper For Above instruction

The assignment requires selecting and viewing one film or documentary from a provided list, then writing a two-page reaction paper. The paper should discuss what was learned from the viewing and personal reactions or feelings about the content. Additionally, the paper must connect themes from the film or documentary to topics covered in class, such as social class, socialization, deviance, crime, and social norms.

In this reaction paper, the student should critically analyze the film or documentary’s message, how it relates to societal issues, and any insights gained regarding human behavior or social structures. For example, if choosing "American History X," one might discuss themes of racism, hate, and redemption, relating them to concepts of socialization and deviant behavior. If selecting "Miss Representation," the focus could be on gender roles and media influence, relating to social norms and socialization processes. Similarly, "Snowden" could be examined through the lens of privacy, government surveillance, and individual rights, connecting to concepts of social deviance and norms.

The paper must be well-organized, clearly written, and adhere to standard academic formatting, including double spacing and Times New Roman font size 12. Personal insights, critical reflections, and connections to course topics are essential components. The overall goal is to demonstrate understanding of societal issues presented in the chosen media and to reflect thoughtfully on how these issues relate to classroom learning.
