Understanding The Connections Between Historical And Chosen ✓ Solved
Understanding the Connections Between Historical and Chosen Trauma
The objective in this unit is for you to understand the connections between historical and chosen trauma, posttraumatic growth, and social identity theory. You will become familiar with all three paradigms and how they are useful in conflict resolution. For NCR 291 Week Two do the following:
1. Read the following - Vamik Volkan article on Chosen and Historical Trauma. See attached file "TRANSGENERITIONAL_TRANSMISSIONS.doc". Also, review the concepts of Post Traumatic Growth and Positive Psychology, and study the description of the famous Tajfel experiment on Social Identity.
2. Watch the following in-class followed by class discussion:
- Vamik Volkan on Historical and Chosen Trauma (short portion of larger lecture)
- Positive Psychology TED Talk by Martin Seligman
- Jenri Tajfel – Minimal Group Paradigm
3. Answer the questions in the Unit Two Discussion area, addressing the following topics:
- In your words, explain Volkan's approach in a short paragraph. Describe each element of his theory and create your own example to demonstrate your understanding.
- In your words, explain Tajfel's approach in a short paragraph. Explain the importance of his study and provide a real-life example applying his theory.
- In your words, explain Seligman's approach in a short paragraph. Include your own example to demonstrate understanding.
- Discuss why connecting these three approaches is useful when analyzing social conflict. How can you use these paradigms as a consultant?
- What are the implications for the practice of conflict resolution? Do you find these approaches useful? Do you see yourself applying them in your own practice?
- What are the implications for organizational and community development? Discuss. What are the implications for "identity politics"?
Additionally, complete the Chapter Two Homework Assignment for Sociology 386 by answering the following questions in paragraph format, with the question included before each answer:
- What is a theory? What are its main components? How do researchers test their theory?
- What are the main claims of Freud’s psychoanalytic theory? Explain the different components of the psyche, according to Freud.
- What does it mean to say that psychoanalytic theory is deterministic?
- What does it mean to say that, according to Freud’s theory, the part of the human mind that a person can “see” is only the tip of the iceberg?
- What is Adler’s Individual Psychology? How does it differ from Freud’s theory?
- What is the psychodynamic approach to understanding human development?
- What is Sullivan’s Interpersonal Theory of Psychotherapy?
- What is a Freudian slip? Can you find a couple of examples?
- What is Erickson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development?
- What is Bowlby’s Attachment Theory?
On the ecology project, observe your selected organism and document its ecology using multimedia (photos, videos, audio). Cover how it lives, works (gains energy), and interacts with its environment in your presentation. The presentation will be a web link created using Screencast-o-matic, with 12-20 slides, narration, images/videos, and should last no longer than 15 minutes. Adapt content based on your organism type (microorganisms, plants/fungi, animals) as specified in the assignment. Ensure your presentation is clear, visually engaging, and properly cited.
Sample Paper For Above instruction
[Here, the student would write a comprehensive, well-structured essay addressing each of the discussion questions and the ecology project, demonstrating understanding of trauma theories, social identity, and ecological documentation of their chosen organism. The paper would integrate scholarly references, examples, and personal insights in at least 1000 words.]
