In today's digital age, the proliferation of personal computers has placed vast amounts of sensitive information at the fingertips of everyday users. Despite this, many individuals remain largely ignorant about the security threats that jeopardize their personal data. Several factors contribute to this widespread knowledge gap. Firstly, a lack of cybersecurity education plays a significant role. Many users do not receive adequate training or information about potential vulnerabilities and how attacks are executed, leading to a false sense of security (Smith & Jones, 2020). Secondly, the rapid evolution of cyber threats outpaces the general public's understanding, making it difficult for typical users to keep up with current risks and protective measures (Chen, 2019). Thirdly, complacency and the "it won't happen to me" attitude prevent users from investing time or effort in securing their systems. This behavioral complacency is compounded by the complexity of security tools, which can be intimidating or confusing for non-technical users, leading them to neglect security practices altogether (Johnson & Lee, 2021). Additionally, a lack of widespread awareness campaigns and insufficient emphasis on cybersecurity in mainstream education contribute to this ignorance. Consequently, users tend to underestimate the severity of threats until they directly experience a security breach. To address this, increased educational efforts and simplified security protocols are essential to improve user awareness and promote proactive security behaviors.
