Throughout my Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program, I have dedicated significant effort to developing and refining my leadership competencies in healthcare. The self-assessment process using the STAR format allowed me to reflect on my progression from my initial baseline ratings to my current skill levels. This comparison illuminated areas of strength and identified gaps that I plan to address moving forward. One notable insight from my assessment was an increased confidence in my strategic thinking abilities, which was previously limited but has improved through coursework and practical experiences. A specific example demonstrating my development was leading a multidisciplinary team during a project aimed at reducing patient readmission rates. By leveraging effective communication, empathy, and strategic planning—core NCHL competencies—I was able to motivate the team, foster collaboration, and achieve measurable improvements in patient care outcomes.

Reflecting on my capstone project, I learned that leadership extends beyond individual skills to encompass fostering a collaborative environment that encourages team members to contribute their unique perspectives. Looking ahead, I have formulated three SMART goals to support my ongoing development as a healthcare leader. First, I aim to enhance my health policy advocacy skills by participating in at least two policy-focused conferences within the next 12 months, enabling me to create stronger connections with policymakers and stakeholders. Second, I will increase my team leadership effectiveness by implementing monthly staff engagement surveys and acting on feedback, with measurable improvements in staff satisfaction scores within six months. Third, I plan to cultivate an organizational climate that values employees by initiating a peer mentoring program within the next nine months, aimed at fostering professional growth and support among colleagues. These goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant to my career aspirations, and have clear timelines, ensuring actionable progress in my leadership journey.
