In this discussion, I am sharing a data visualization I recently created to represent the progress of renewable energy adoption across different regions over the past decade. The visual I developed is a line graph that displays the percentage increase in renewable energy consumption from 2012 to 2022 for North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. This graph provides a clear comparative view of how each region has evolved in adopting renewable energy sources, highlighting trends and significant changes over the years.
The purpose of this visual is to illustrate the growth trends in renewable energy usage worldwide, emphasizing the disparities and advancements across regions. Policymakers, environmentalists, and researchers are the primary audience for this visual, as it provides valuable insights into regional achievements and areas needing further attention in the fight against climate change. By depicting data visually, complex information about energy consumption patterns becomes more accessible and understandable, facilitating informed decision-making.
I composed the visual as a line graph because it effectively demonstrates trends over time, making it easy to compare the progression across different regions simultaneously. The choice of a line graph was intentional to show the increase trajectories clearly and to make it straightforward for viewers to interpret the data at a glance. Additionally, I used different colors for each region to enhance visual clarity and facilitate quick differentiation.
