Before you begin to pursue your Master of Public Health (MPH), I’d like to discuss the admissions essay requirement as part of your application for this program. The essay requirement is meant to demonstrate that you have the writing skills to succeed in the MPH program.
Your essay must be in response to one of the following: Explain your understanding of the rigors of graduate education and the MPH program. Describe a time when you had to overcome a challenging situation and how this may relate to your success in graduate school and the MPH program. In your opinion, what is the top public health crisis facing this generation?

I believe that understanding the rigorous nature of graduate education, overcoming personal challenges, and recognizing current public health crises are vital components of my preparedness and motivation to succeed in this field.
Firstly, I recognize that graduate education, particularly an MPH program, demands an advanced level of critical thinking, research skills, and the ability to synthesize complex information. The coursework challenges students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world issues, demanding disciplined study schedules and proactive engagement. My academic background has equipped me with a solid foundation in research methodology and analytical skills, but I am aware that graduate-level coursework will push me further to develop nuanced solutions to public health problems. My previous experience in community health initiatives has demonstrated that success in such programs requires not only intellectual capability but also resilience and adaptability in facing uncertainties and setbacks.
One significant challenge I faced was during my volunteer work in a rural health outreach project, where I encountered language barriers, cultural differences, and limited resources. Moreover, it highlighted disparities in health outcomes among different populations, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions and policy reforms. Addressing such crises requires a multidisciplinary approach that combines epidemiology, community engagement, and health policy, all of which I aspire to contribute to through my MPH education.
