Assessment Project a Program Development project will provide an opportunity to use applied research methodology to church ministry. Each student will conduct a comprehensive assessment of his/her church’s ministry to couples and/or families. You will choose whether you want to (1) assess an existing ministry (program evaluation) or (2) assess a need and develop a program to address this need within the congregation or community (needs assessment/ program development project). The purpose of this assignment is to apply applied research methodology within the context of church ministry by conducting a comprehensive assessment of your church’s ministry to couples and/or families. This project aims to examine either an existing ministry or identify a specific need within your community and develop an appropriate program to address it. This process will deepen your understanding of program evaluation and development, fostering practical skills that can be utilized to enhance church ministries effectively.

First, select your focus area: determine whether you will evaluate an existing ministry (program evaluation) or identify a new need and develop a program accordingly (needs assessment and program development). If you choose to evaluate an existing ministry, gather data on its effectiveness, participant engagement, resource allocation, and overall impact on couples and families within your congregation. Conduct surveys, interviews, or review attendance and participation records to assess strengths and areas for improvement.

If opting to assess a need and develop a program, begin with community or congregation needs assessment. Conduct surveys, interviews, or focus groups with church members and community stakeholders to identify gaps or unmet needs related to couples and families. Use this data to design a tailored program that addresses identified issues such as relationship counseling, parenting support, or marriage enrichment. The development process should encompass program objectives, activities, resources required, and evaluation strategies.

The project should include a clear description of the research methodology, the data collection methods employed, and the analysis techniques used for evaluating findings. Discuss how the data informed your decision to evaluate an existing ministry or design a new program, and articulate the expected outcomes of your project.

In your paper, ensure to incorporate relevant literature on church ministries, research methods, and program development. Highlight best practices and theoretical frameworks that support your assessment and program planning efforts. Conclude by reflecting on the potential impacts of your proposed or evaluated program on the congregation’s couples and families, emphasizing how your findings contribute to effective ministry practice.
