Identity Profilethis Assignment Is A Reflection And Analysis Of Your P
This assignment is a reflection and analysis of your personal racial, ethnic, and cultural identity. For this task, you will write a 4–5 page paper (excluding the cover page and references). The paper should include a detailed description of your race, ethnicity, cultural influences, traditions, beliefs, and values, supported by at least three peer-reviewed journal articles published within the last five years that discuss racial identity development, ethnic identity development, or cultural identity development. You should utilize the Capella Library to find these peer-reviewed articles, using keywords relevant to your identity description, such as “Latino and identity model” or “Hispanic and cultural identity development models.”
Additionally, you will identify and discuss the factors that have influenced your self-view, including your background, experiences, cultural traditions, parental and family relationships, education, and workplace environments. To support this discussion, include findings from your Internet search conducted in Unit 1.
Furthermore, you are asked to analyze how your racial, ethnic, and cultural identity, along with the factors discussed, have affected your interactions with others. Pay particular attention to issues of culture and diversity and how they influence cultural competence. Support your analysis with a summary of findings from the Universal Ethnic Identity Scale (UEIS) from Unit 1 and your self-assessment from Unit 3. You should compare and contrast your analysis of the UEIS and self-assessment with one additional assessment tool, such as the Everyday Multicultural Competencies/Revised Scale of Ethnocultural Empathy or the Cultural Competence Self-Assessment Tool.
The paper must be formatted in Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced, and include a cover page, page numbers, and a running head. It is acceptable to write in the first person. Cite at least three sources using current APA style for citations and references.

Title: Exploring My Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Identity: Reflection and Analysis
Introduction
Understanding one's racial, ethnic, and cultural identity requires deep reflection on personal background, cultural influences, and life experiences. This paper explores my specific identity, the factors that have shaped my self-perception, and how these elements influence my interactions within diverse contexts. By integrating scholarly literature and personal assessments, I aim to critically analyze how my identity development aligns with current theories and models of cultural competence.
My Racial, Ethnic, and Cultural Identity
I identify as a Hispanic woman with roots in Mexico, where cultural traditions such as Día de los Muertos and family-oriented values play a central role in my life. My cultural beliefs emphasize respect, community, and resilience, which stem from my upbringing and cultural socialization. According to Smith and colleagues (2020), ethnic identity development in Hispanic populations often involves strong community ties and family-centered values that influence individual self-concept. My self-perception is also shaped by cultural practices, language use, and shared histories that reinforce a sense of belonging and cultural pride.
Peer-reviewed research supports the importance of cultural identity in shaping self-esteem and behavior. For instance, Garcia and Martinez (2019) highlight that cultural traditions and ongoing engagement with cultural community resources are key factors in developing a positive cultural identity among Hispanic individuals. Such literature affirms the role of cultural continuity in fostering psychological well-being and identity coherence.
Factors Influencing Self-View
Several factors have contributed to my understanding of myself. My familial background instilled strong cultural values, particularly through my parents’ emphasis on hard work and respect. Experiences within my community, including participation in cultural festivals and language preservation efforts, have reinforced my cultural identity. Education has provided a broader perspective, encouraging me to explore cultural diversity and advocate for inclusivity. In my workplace, interactions with colleagues from varied backgrounds have highlighted the importance of cultural competence and empathy.
An Internet search in Unit 1 revealed that cultural influences are often intertwined with socio-economic factors, shaping individual identity development. According to Lee (2021), socio-economic status can either facilitate or hinder access to cultural resources and networks, impacting how individuals perceive themselves and others. These insights emphasize that identity formation is a dynamic process affected by multiple intersecting influences.
Impact on Interactions and Cultural Competence
My cultural identity and experiences have significantly impacted my interactions with others. The Universal Ethnic Identity Scale (UEIS) underscores a progression through phases of awareness, exploration, and internalization of cultural identity (Brown, 2018). My self-assessment from Unit 3 reflects a growing sense of multicultural awareness and empathy, aligning with the UEIS findings. Comparing these results with the Cultural Competence Self-Assessment Tool reveals areas where I excel, such as cultural awareness and sensitivity, while identifying opportunities for further development in engaging with diverse perspectives.
Engaging in continuous self-reflection and practicing cultural humility are vital components of developing cultural competence. As Purnell (2020) emphasizes, effective intercultural communication involves recognizing one's biases, actively listening, and adapting behavior to meet the cultural needs of others. My journey toward cultural competence is ongoing, shaped by both personal identity and deliberate effort to foster inclusivity.
Conclusion
My racial, ethnic, and cultural identity are integral to my sense of self and are shaped by familial, community, educational, and workplace influences. These factors have influenced how I perceive myself and interact with others, underscoring the importance of cultural competence in personal and professional settings. By critically analyzing my identity development through scholarly models and self-assessments, I recognize the continual process of growth and the responsibility to promote diversity and inclusion in my interactions.
