Step 1: Select a movie character to use as your fictitious client throughout the project.

Any character will work for this project.

Step 2: Find a movie clip of this character performing an action or task to use for your assessment.

Step 3: Review the movie clip you selected to help you identify the content needed for the assessment. What do you notice about the character or the environment in the clip? What does the character look like? How would you describe the character’s physical build, voice, hair, skin, etc.? Consider mobility, hygiene, nutritional status. Does the character use any verbal or nonverbal cues that provide additional information you can use for your assessment?

Step 4: Complete the Assessment section of the Nursing Process Project template. If a category is non-applicable, write NA in that section of the template.

The nursing process is a systematic, patient-centered approach to delivering nursing care. It comprises five key steps: assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The initial step, assessment, sets the foundation for all subsequent care activities. It involves collecting comprehensive information about the patient's physical, psychological, social, and spiritual health status to inform accurate diagnoses and effective care planning (Ignatavicius & Workman, 2018).

For this project, I selected the fictional character Walter White from the television series "Breaking Bad" as my assessment client. Although not a movie character, his complex personality and visual representation in scenes provide rich material for a detailed assessment. I reviewed a clip where Walter White is engaged in a scientific experiment in his meth lab, which offers insights into his physical condition and environment, shaping my assessment approach.

In analyzing Walter White's physical appearance, he appears to be of average build but shows signs of stress and fatigue, with a gaunt face and slightly disheveled hair. His skin tone appears pale, possibly indicative of exhaustion or health issues. His voice is steady but carries a tone of concern and focus. His grooming is minimal, aligning with his preoccupied mindset during lab work.

Mobility does not seem impaired in the clip; however, his movements appear cautious and deliberate, perhaps limited by the environment or his health status. Hygiene appears moderate; he is dressed in a lab coat, which signifies professional or safety concerns, but his hair and general appearance suggest neglect of personal grooming. Nutritionally, his appearance and demeanor hint at possible nutritional deficiencies or stress-related weight loss, aligning with the overall physical cues of someone under considerable mental and emotional strain.

Additionally, Walter White's nonverbal cues—such as furrowed brows, focused gaze, and tight-lipped expressions—indicate stress, determination, or concern about his activities. These cues, combined with his environment, provide valuable information regarding his mental state and the context of his physical health.

In completing the assessment, I documented these observations systematically in the designated template, evaluating each category: physical build, voice, hair, skin, mobility, hygiene, nutritional status, and cues. Not all categories were applicable to his scene; for example, spiritual status was not assessable given the context, so I marked it as NA.

This assessment process underscores the importance of observation, critical thinking, and systematic documentation in nursing care. Even when working with fictional scenarios, it demonstrates the application of core nursing principles to gather relevant data, which is essential for accurate diagnosis and effective intervention planning.
