Questions: 1- I'd like you to write down your answer to the question " What is Theatre ?" You can base your answer on personal experience, something that you've read before, or even just your out of nowhere opinion here at the outset of this course. There's no definite right or wrong answer here, but it will help me gauge what you think about theatre as an art form and help me figure out how to build appreciation (tm) for it. Plus! it will force you to think about what you already know or assume about the subject of the course. 2- Now that we have talked more about a definition for Theatre and I've given an example of one, write a paragraph about how your understanding of the course topic has changed. Make sure to specifically identify what assumptions changed and what made you think differently.

Personally, I perceive theatre as a live interaction between performers and an audience, creating a unique, immediate, and collective experience that cannot be fully replicated through other media. From my previous experiences attending local plays and school performances, I saw theatre as primarily entertainment—a way to escape reality and enjoy a compelling story performed live. Reading about theatre and its history expanded my understanding, revealing its role in societal reflection, cultural expression, and even political commentary. I now realize that theatre is not just entertainment but also a powerful vehicle for social change and cultural dialogue, fostering empathy and understanding among diverse audiences.

My understanding of theatre has significantly evolved since engaging in this course. Initially, I assumed that theatre was mainly about entertainment and storytelling on stage, often focusing on the performing aspect. However, after discussions and studying different definitions and examples, I learned that theatre encompasses a broader spectrum of activities, including directing, stage design, lighting, costumes, and even audience engagement.
