Students are required to find a news article and write a short paper (words) explaining the article subject using chemistry terms/concepts discussed and learned in this course. This assignment is NOT to simply write a summary of an article. Be EXTREMELY CAREFUL to NOT plagiarize the article. The complete article, or web address of the article, must be included within the submitted paper Word document file. Only Word formats (.doc or .docx) are acceptable!

This assignment must be submitted NO LATER THAN April 27th at 6PM. Late submissions will NOT be accepted and will result in zero points for this assignment.

Writing the Short Paper

The paper should be approximately 500 words in length, well-organized, and demonstrate a clear understanding of the underlying chemistry concepts. It should not be a mere summary but an analysis that interprets the article's content through the appropriate chemical principles. For example, if the article discusses water purification, the paper might explain chemical processes involved in filtration or disinfection.

Use correct chemistry terminology and concepts discussed in this course. This includes but is not limited to chemical reactions, molecular structures, bond types, chemical properties, and energy considerations. The goal is to relate the article’s subject matter explicitly to the chemical principles involved.

Inclusion of the Article

The entire article or its web address must be included within the Word document submission. This can be done by embedding a link or attaching a scanned copy of the article. The inclusion ensures the instructor can verify and evaluate the relevance and accuracy of the analysis.
