My research question is: What is the future of AI and how it’s going to affect our lives? Technological inventions have taken humanity to another level in how they live their lives. Human nature is built to be curious and innovative. However, that is not the case with AI & Machine learning because now it’s more like a race. AI is simply giving the machines a certain intelligence to perform tasks that require human intelligence.
Mainly, there are three types of intelligence that a machine can acquire which are ANI (Artificial Narrow Intelligence), AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), and ASI (Artificial Superintelligence), with experts sorting it as science fiction. AI & Machine learning will make breakthroughs and will be significant in the future, making it a very interesting subject. Until now, AI has been taking baby steps; however, it is doing a significant job in assisting us. For instance, AI & Machine learning are now used in education, healthcare, and many other sectors.
My research is library-based; it did not involve fieldwork or questionnaires. This means that I put my question “What is the future of AI and how it is going to affect our lives?” into a Google search. It is interesting to see that Google shows 107 million hits on that particular question. I was able to access articles and other resources through the PMU Library, providing me the information and data to form knowledge to develop this research paper.
AI has already been applied to education in tools that help develop skills. AI is used in the education sector, especially in language teaching. “Duolingo also leverages AI in optimizing and personalizing sessions. It features an assessment of mistake patterns that many language students make when practicing newly learned words” (Gupta, 2020). This type of technology can help teachers assess their students' needs effectively. As we live in this pandemic, we see how AI is aiding educators in schools and universities. Some tasks are being lifted from educators, such as grading tests or homework; however, AI is not yet developed to do everything. Still, we leverage it along with our skills to close the gap the pandemic has created. Artificial Intelligence is now making the lives of doctors and hospital administrations easier than before.
AI can now execute tasks typically done by humans in less time and at a reduced cost. The applications of AI in the healthcare sector are numerous, and its increase is evident daily. At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, researchers use AI to identify bacteria quickly and accurately, employing enhanced microscopes with AI for faster diagnoses. “This marks the first demonstration of machine learning in the diagnostic area,” said senior author James Kirby, MD, Director of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at BIDMC and Associate Professor of Pathology at Harvard Medical School (Mitchell, 2017).
Moreover, Buoy Health employs a chatbot enhanced with AI & Machine learning to listen to patient symptoms and provide diagnoses accordingly. Other uses of AI in the healthcare sector include early cancer detection and identifying tumors in the brain or veins that may lead to heart strokes. Although AI & Machine learning are beneficial, they come with burdens; one of these burdens is the risk of job loss. “AI will put 10 million jobs at high risk—more than were eliminated by the Great Recession” (CB Insights, 2018). Although AI is not presently threatening jobs drastically, its effects are recognizable in certain sectors.
In the food industry, AI is increasingly replacing workers effectively. Eatsa is a fully self-checkout restaurant in the United States that is gaining popularity. Additionally, McDonald’s restaurant chains plan to replace cashiers with kiosks in 2,500 locations. Recently, we have observed cleaning robots that can efficiently replace janitors, cleaners, and housekeepers. However, some experts argue that by 2025, technology will not displace more jobs than it creates.
To summarize, we all look forward to a bright and safe future. Nevertheless, with AI & Machine learning come both benefits and drawbacks. It is crucial to implement rules that prevent adverse impacts on our lives. From the readings I have conducted, AI & Machine learning offer excellent benefits, yet they also present certain burdens and negativity, emphasizing the importance of establishing guidelines to maximize their advantages.

As technology continues to evolve, AI is predicted to play a significant role in transforming various sectors, including education, healthcare, and the workforce. AI can be categorized into three main types: Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI), Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and Artificial Superintelligence (ASI). Currently, we primarily operate within the realm of ANI, characterized by systems designed to perform narrow tasks, such as language translation or data analysis. AGI, which refers to machines with the capacity to understand and learn any intellectual task that a human can, remains a theoretical concept. ASI, on the other hand, involves intelligence surpassing human capabilities and is often regarded as a science fiction concept (Russell & Norvig, 2016).
The educational sector has witnessed significant advancements driven by AI technologies. A notable example includes the language-learning platform Duolingo, which employs AI algorithms to customize and optimize learning experiences (Gupta, 2020). Such advancements empower educators to provide personalized instruction based on individual student needs, enhancing the overall learning experience.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the reliance on AI in education has become even more pronounced. With remote learning becoming the norm, AI tools have proven invaluable in facilitating online education. For instance, AI can assist in automating administrative tasks, thereby allowing educators to focus on teaching and engaging with students. As we move towards an increasingly digital education landscape, it is essential to recognize the role of AI in shaping the future learning environment (Smith, 2021).
The healthcare industry is another sector experiencing transformative changes due to AI advancements. Researchers at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have utilized AI to enhance bacterial identification processes, significantly reducing diagnosis time (Mitchell, 2017). The use of AI in healthcare encompasses a wide range of applications, from predictive analytics for patient outcomes to AI-powered diagnostics and personalized medicine strategies. These advancements hold the potential to revolutionize patient care and streamline healthcare operations.
However, the rapid integration of AI introduces significant challenges, particularly concerning the future of the workforce. AI's ability to automate certain tasks raises concerns about job displacement. According to a report by CB Insights, “AI will put 10 million jobs at high risk—more than were eliminated by the Great Recession” (CB Insights, 2018). While some industries may benefit from increased efficiency and productivity through AI adoption, others may face workforce disruptions as machines replace human labor.
In sectors like food service, AI is already making its mark. This perspective emphasizes the need for workforce adaptation and reskilling to prepare individuals for the changing job landscape.
In conclusion, the future of AI holds immense potential for improving various sectors, including education and healthcare. While AI technologies present opportunities for innovation and efficiency, they also bring challenges that society must address. Collaborative measures, including policy development and workforce reskilling, will be crucial in harnessing AI’s benefits while mitigating its adverse impacts on employment. As we navigate this technological shift, clear guidelines and ethical considerations will be essential in shaping a future where AI positively influences our lives.
