For the final forum in this course, please answer the following questions: 1) What aspect of the criminal process did you find most interesting in this course? 2) Which aspects of the criminal process do you think needed more study for you to fully understand? 3) I would like everyone to share with each other what your next step is at APUS. Are you enrolled in another course after this one? Has this course got you thinking about taking a course that you had not previously considered? Is there anything that I, as your instructor, can do to help you plan out your future courses at AMU/APU? You must post your initial response by Wednesday of the week assigned and must reply to 2 others by Sunday of the week assigned. Your initial substantive response should be at least 250 words. All citations must be in APA or Bluebook format.
Paper For Above instruction
The criminal justice process is a complex system that involves multiple stages, actors, and legal procedures designed to uphold justice and protect individual rights. Throughout this course, I found myself particularly intrigued by the role of the adversarial system in the criminal process, especially how prosecutors and defense attorneys operate within this framework. The tension and negotiation inherent in the adversarial process highlight the importance of advocacy and evidentiary standards in ensuring fair trials. Learning about the procedural safeguards, such as the right to a fair trial and due process, deepened my appreciation for the safeguards that prevent wrongful convictions and promote justice (Simon & Burns, 2020). Additionally, the stages of criminal proceedings—from investigation and arrest to trial and sentencing—were fascinating, especially how each phase involves specific legal rights and procedural requirements aimed at safeguarding defendants' rights while facilitating the administration of justice.
Despite this, I believe that I need more study on the nuances of juvenile justice and how it differs from the adult criminal system. Understanding the distinct procedures, rehabilitative focus, and legal considerations in juvenile cases remains a challenge. Clarifying the role of juvenile courts, as well as the socio-economic factors influencing juvenile delinquency, would enhance my comprehension of this critical aspect of the criminal process (Feld, 2014). Additionally, I found the procedural aspects related to plea bargaining somewhat complex, and further exploration of its ethical implications and impact on justice would be beneficial.
Looking ahead, my next step is to enroll in another course at APUS to continue expanding my knowledge of criminal justice and law. This course has certainly encouraged me to consider courses on criminal law and constitutional rights, which I had not previously emphasized. As an instructor, I would appreciate any guidance on how to strategically select courses that build upon my current knowledge base and align with my career aspirations within the criminal justice field. Your insights into planning a comprehensive educational trajectory at AMU/APU would be greatly helpful.
