Coursework 3 Assessment: Personal Reflection and Development Plan

Coursework 3 Assessment: Personal Reflection and Development Plan (1000 – 1200 words)

A key element of this module is the development of your business etiquette and professionalism. During the module you will complete a series of formative activities that will provide you with an opportunity to develop a range of transferable skills and identify areas for continuous professional development.

Task: You will be required to make a series of directed and non-directed reflective entries based on these formative activities culminating in the production of a Personal Development Plan. If you wish, you may draw on experiences from other modules and present a holistic picture of your development in semester 1.

Learning Outcome 3: Identify future personal development required to increase levels of personal business acumen and professionalism.

Recommended Elements (1000 – 1200 words):

  1. Introduction – About Me: This can be in the form of a short video, a blog entry and include visuals such as photographs.
  2. A short Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) at the beginning of the module highlighting a minimum of four aspects (but ideally five or six) of each element of the SWOT.
  3. Building your personal brand. Briefly outline how you might construct a future YOU and ways in which you will sell YOUR brand to the marketplace.
  4. Reflective dialogue recording the development of the skills and knowledge to show the development of business acumen and professionalism. You may for example use learning from any of the following areas:
    • Employability skills
    • Self-awareness and emotional intelligence
    • Creativity and innovation
    • Teamwork and leadership skills
    • Reflective practice
    • Cultural awareness
    • Codes of conduct
    • Professionalism in the workplace

This can for example be a weekly diary format and be based on critical incidents. A critical incident is a significant experience, which has resulted in learning of some kind. A helpful framework for discussing a critical incident is "SAO" - Situation, Action, Outcome.

  5. Using the template provided, construct a Personal Development Plan outlining at least three (3) areas for development. It is important to be as specific as possible. For example, do not just say that you wish to improve your communication skills, but specify the focus (written communication, networking communication etc.) and ways in which you can clearly evidence their improvement (how will you measure it?). The process of self-reflection is an ongoing process and will continue in semester 2 through the Developing an Enterprising Mindset module.
