Social change can be described as the various social and civic activities that produce a change in behavior through awareness and understanding. It is a phenomenon that, if fully embraced and accepted, has the potential to transform individuals' lives as well as the communities they serve. Education institutions like Walden University exemplify social change by focusing on delivering accessible education aimed at individuals balancing full-time careers and family responsibilities, fostering diverse communities that encourage social impact.

For nearly five decades, Walden University has been dedicated to educating adults from over 50 countries. Their mission emphasizes providing opportunities for learners engaged in professional and personal development, promoting social change through their alumni and student achievements. These efforts highlight the role of higher education in addressing social issues and empowering communities worldwide.

Social change is also discussed as a critical social issue and a research problem. Despite extensive discussions, there exists a gap in understanding how specific educational models and community initiatives contribute systematically to social transformation. This research gap presents an opportunity to explore effective strategies for fostering sustainable social change within educational and community settings.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the role of educational institutions in promoting social change, focusing on the impact of student and alumni activities in community development. This study aims to examine how intentional educational practices can serve as catalysts for societal improvements, emphasizing the importance of awareness, civic engagement, and policy influence.

As a qualitative researcher, my role is to gather in-depth insights through interviews, videos, and social media analysis, exploring how individuals and communities perceive and participate in social change initiatives. Ethical considerations include maintaining confidentiality, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring respectful representation of participants’ experiences. The data analysis will involve coding and categorizing themes across sources, aiming for trustworthiness, credibility, and transferability through systematic procedures. My reflections recognize the importance of transparency and objectivity in conducting meaningful research that contributes to understanding social change processes.

Recognizing these obstacles underscores the importance of strategic, inclusive, and culturally sensitive approaches to foster sustainable change.

This research aims to investigate how educational strategies at institutions like Walden University contribute to social change in local and global contexts. By analyzing student activities, alumni contributions, and institutional policies, the study seeks to identify best practices and potential areas of improvement. The ultimate goal is to provide insights into how education can serve as a deliberate and effective tool for fostering positive social transformation.

In conducting this research, I as the qualitative researcher will utilize interviews with students, faculty, and alumni, as well as visual data such as videos and social media content to gather comprehensive perspectives. Ethical issues such as confidentiality and voluntary participation will be upheld, and data will be coded and categorized to reveal emergent themes. Strategies to ensure trustworthiness include triangulation, member checking, and maintaining audit trails, reinforcing the validity and reliability of findings.

This study contributes to the broader understanding of social change by emphasizing the critical role of education as an agent of societal transformation. It highlights the importance of intentional, community-centered approaches and underscores the potential for universities to shape more equitable and empowered societies.
