Principles of Business Management – Week 5 Assignment Teams and Communication During the next four weeks, we will work on creating a summary report that features the management operations of Camp Bow Wow. Over the past four weeks we have been covering information related to planning, organizing, leading, and controlling, so the summary report will offer a good method to demonstrate your knowledge of these concepts. Camp Bow Wow is a dog boarding and grooming franchise with over 150 units in the U.S. and Canada that generated more than $100 million in revenue in 2017. Camp Bow Wow generates revenue through the boarding, daycare, feeding and full-service grooming, training, and in-home pet care services.
Camp Bow Wow has developed an evolved business model that provides structure and supervision for dogs, while providing them the freedom and running room to be their joyful selves. (Source) One of the key elements of Camp Bow Wow’s success is by being innovative and having multiple ways to generate income. Off-leash dog parks have become very popular in many communities. Some off-leash dog parks are free, while others charge a membership fee. For this assignment, you are taking on the role of a Camp Bow Wow General Manager, and have been asked by the franchise owner, Susan Bell, to explore the idea of developing a Camp Bow Wow Dog Park. Adjacent to Susan’s Camp Bow Wow Location, she also owns a 10-acre vacant lot that is zoned correctly for a dog park.
Susan is considering forming a task force and is asking for your opinion on the dog park idea. You love the idea and have offered to lead and create a team to generate a summary report. You are wanting to advance in the company and you understand that Susan is a hands-on owner; so you are prepared to give her lots of detail on about how you will meet this challenge. This week's assignment will be to submit the first section of the summary report that includes; how you will plan, organize, lead, and control the formation of this taskforce of 5 employees of your choosing, and how you will effectively communicate with the taskforce team members as well as your boss, Susan Bell. Paper For Above instruction
Subject: Proposal to Lead the Development of a Camp Bow Wow Dog Park Project
Dear Susan Bell,
I am writing to express my enthusiasm and willingness to volunteer as the leader for the upcoming initiative to develop a Camp Bow Wow Dog Park. Given my understanding of our business operations and my commitment to enhancing our services and community engagement, I believe I am well-suited to lead this project.
In developing this project, I plan to apply core management principles—planning, organizing, leading, and controlling—to ensure its successful execution. First, I will begin with detailed planning by outlining the objectives, scope, and resources necessary for the dog park. This will include feasibility analysis and budgeting, aligning with Camp Bow Wow’s strategic goals to diversify income streams and strengthen our community presence.
Next, I will organize a dedicated task force of five employees who possess a diverse range of skills relevant to this project. Given the available staff, I propose selecting Lucy, our Assistant Office Manager, Van, the Dog Boarding Supervisor, Linus, the Dog Groomer, Schroder, the Pet Care Specialist, and Patty, our Dog Trainer. This team will bring operational experience, customer service expertise, and pet care knowledge, essential for the project's success.
To lead effectively, I will foster open communication, clarify roles and responsibilities, and motivate team members to contribute their best ideas. Regular meetings and updates will be scheduled to monitor progress and address any challenges proactively. Moreover, I will communicate consistently with you, providing detailed reports on milestones, challenges, and achievements to keep you informed and involved in key decision-making processes.
Controlling involves setting performance standards, tracking progress against objectives, and making necessary adjustments. I will establish metrics for success, such as community engagement levels, project timeline adherence, budget management, and overall quality of the park development.
Effective communication will be crucial throughout this process. I plan to hold initial meetings with the task force to establish goals, maintain regular check-ins, utilize clear and concise messaging, and ensure transparency. I will also keep you updated through weekly reports and personal meetings to align the project’s progress with your expectations.
In conclusion, I am confident that by applying sound principles of management and fostering teamwork and communication, this project will successfully develop a dog park that aligns with Camp Bow Wow’s mission and business goals. I look forward to your approval and support in moving forward with this exciting opportunity.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
