This model, as part of your Capstone course, considers your personal experiences and formal study of leadership. Individuals usually find they identify with and use a number of different formal models and personalize their model to fit their personal style.

For Signature Assignment 2 you will write a 2-3-page double-spaced paper explaining the key elements of leadership that you believe are most important for your success.

Through the integration of formal learning and personal experience, please state how your personal model is similar to or different from others that you studied, and how you developed and adopted your current model. Your paper should include the following:

  1. Your preferred definition of leadership and how you developed it.
  2. Key models (formal learning), concepts or tools from your capstone project or other experiences that inform your view of leadership and your leadership model.

Sample Paper For Above instruction

Developing my personal leadership model based on experiences, formal education, and ongoing reflection is crucial for my professional growth and contribution to organizational success. My leadership philosophy has been shaped by diverse experiences in the workplace, academic pursuits within the Leadership program, and my capstone project, which collectively inform my understanding and practice of effective leadership.

1. My Preferred Definition of Leadership and Its Development

I define leadership as the ability to influence, motivate, and enable others to contribute toward the achievement of organizational goals while fostering an environment of trust, collaboration, and continuous learning. This definition has evolved over time through personal experiences, mentorship, and formal learning. Initially, I viewed leadership as primarily about authority and decision-making; however, through reflection and education, I now understand it as a more relational and transformational process that emphasizes empowerment and ethical behavior.

2. Key Models, Concepts, and Tools Informing My Leadership View

a. Capstone Project Experiences

During my capstone project, I applied transformational leadership principles by inspiring team members to pursue innovative solutions and by fostering open communication. I leveraged Kotter’s Change Model to facilitate organizational change, which underscored the importance of creating urgency, forming guiding coalitions, and consolidating gains. This experience solidified my belief in the importance of vision-setting and stakeholder engagement for effective leadership.

b. MSL Program Experiences

The formal coursework introduced me to Servant Leadership theory, emphasizing humility, listening, and the prioritization of followers' needs. Additionally, the coursework on Emotional Intelligence (EI) highlighted the significance of self-awareness and relationship management in leadership effectiveness. These concepts have equipped me with tools to better understand and connect with others, thereby enhancing my leadership capabilities.

c. Workplace and Other Settings

Practical experiences in the workplace reinforced the importance of authentic leadership. I observed that leaders who demonstrated transparency and integrity fostered higher levels of trust and team cohesion. Engaging in community volunteering initiatives further deepened my understanding of shared leadership and collaboration beyond organizational boundaries.

3. Description of My Leadership Model and Its Application

My leadership model integrates transformational and servant leadership principles, emphasizing vision, empowerment, ethical conduct, and emotional intelligence. In my capstone project, I utilized transformational strategies to lead change initiatives, such as inspiring a shared vision and encouraging innovation among team members. I also prioritized listening and empathy, aligning with servant leadership, to build trust and facilitate team development. These components are reflected in my visual model, which depicts a central core of ethical vision surrounded by interconnected elements of empowerment, communication, and emotional awareness.

Currently, I am focusing on enhancing my emotional intelligence and ethical decision-making, recognizing their critical roles in effective leadership. I plan to pursue additional training in conflict resolution and culturally responsive leadership to better serve diverse teams. Additionally, I intend to seek mentorship opportunities and participate in leadership development programs to refine my skills further and adapt to emerging organizational challenges.

Overall, my leadership journey is characterized by a commitment to authentic influence, continuous learning, and ethical practice. I aim to embody these principles consistently while remaining adaptable to new contexts and feedback, ensuring my leadership remains relevant, impactful, and aligned with my core values.
